Senior Systems Administrator

Job Overview:

As a Sr. System Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of Windows-based server systems. Your role will involve ensuring the smooth operation of Windows servers, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions to optimize performance and reliability. You will collaborate with other IT professionals to design and implement server infrastructure that meets the organization’s needs and supports its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Server Installation and Configuration: Deploy and configure Windows server operating systems according to organizational requirements and industry best practices.
  • System Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor server performance, conduct regular system maintenance tasks such as updates, patches, and backups to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • User Account Management: Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls on Windows servers, ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve server-related issues in a timely manner, utilizing troubleshooting techniques and tools to minimize downtime and maintain service availability.
  • Security Management: Implement and maintain server security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls, to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Capacity Planning: Assess server resource usage and plan for future capacity requirements, making recommendations for hardware/software upgrades or expansions as necessary.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Generate regular reports on server performance, security status, and compliance.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with other IT teams, including network administrators, database administrators, and application developers, to ensure seamless integration and support of server infrastructure for business applications and services.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Develop and implement disaster recovery plans and procedures to minimize data loss and ensure business continuity in the event of server failures or disasters.
  • Stay Current with Technology: Keep abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in Windows server administration, and make recommendations for their adoption to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience in Windows server administration, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and other related technologies.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) is required.
  • Familiarity with server hardware, storage systems, and networking concepts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, CompTIA Server+, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • This role typically operates in an office environment but may require occasional on-call or off-hours support to address critical issues or perform maintenance tasks.
  • Physical demands may include lifting and carrying server equipment, cabling, and other hardware components.

  • Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
